Separately Bookable Workshop
March 24th London, March 26th Manchester
9:30am - 12:30pm
Financial markets create wealth: traditional and alternative asset classes hold an embedded “risk premium” – a return above cash – although returns will not be positive every year. Multiple studies have proven that almost 90% of the return of a diversified portfolio is due to its strategic asset allocation, yet investors often spend too little time on this important practice.
This session will examine:
- Traditional and alternative asset classes and what they have brought to portfolios over the last 100 years
- The importance of strategic asset allocation for long term risk premium capture
- Modern Portfolio Theory: why Markowitz is still valid 50 years on
- The Efficient Frontier and Capital Market Line explained
- What does this mean in the “real world” of asset allocation for IFA client portfolios
In a step-by-step guide, this workshop will provide an evidence-based approach to asset allocation, and will examine the practices of some of the smartest minds across the academic community and investment practitioners. By the end of the session, attendees will have a sound understanding of various traditional and alternative asset classes and the importance of blending these within client portfolios to achieve optimal performance on a risk-adjusted basis. In particular, attendees will increase their knowledge of alternative asset classes and how these can be used to lower overall portfolio volatility.
