Dr. Ros Altmann

Ros Altmann is an independent policy adviser on pension issues. She is a trained economist and investment banker, with extensive investment management experience.

Before working in the City, Ros was an academic, focusing on UK pension policy and occupational pensions, and worked on Harvard University’s National Bureau of Economic Research Pensions Program.

Ros ran Chase Manhattan’s equity investments in London, was a Board Director at Rothschild Asset Management and also at NatWest Investment Management.

Her policy advisory work specialises in asset allocation and pensions-related issues. She was a consultant to the Treasury, and the Number 10 Policy Unit on institutional investment and pensions.

Ros has a Ph.D. degree in Economics from L.S.E. and was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard. She is non-executive Director of the London School of Economics, Chair of its Investments Committee, a governor of L.S.E and of the Pensions Policy Institute and trustee of the Age Employment Network. Ros is also a non-executive of the Court Funds Office Investment Board.

 

Martin Tilley

Martin graduated from Mid Sussex College with a B -Tech qualification in Business and Finance in 1984, and holds the full FPC qualification.

Martin has 26 years experience in the Self Invested pension arena; and is an Associate of the Pension Management Institute.

Martin Joined Dentons in 1988 where he has competently demonstrated his capabilities and technical knowledge, working his way up from administrator to consultant and now senior management. He won the coveted Financial Advisor award for SIPP Consultant of the year in 2005.

Martin is Fully FSA authorised and is Business Development Manager and Compliance Officer at Dentons whilst still personally looking after some of his own clients as a consultant.

 

Chris O'Brien

Chris O'Brien is Director of the Centre for Risk and Insurance Studies at Nottingham University Business School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and was previously the appointed actuary of a UK life insurer.

He moved to Nottingham in 2000, where he teaches insurance and risk management, and carries out research, with special emphasis on the management of life insurance companies.

 

Dan Russell

Dan Russell joined The Hartford in 2005 as part of the team that launched the company into the UK market. Dan’s keen insight in to the business means that he enjoys strong relationships across a wide spectrum of UK distributors.

In addition Dan has also played a leading role in the development of The Hartford's entry in to the German market.

As Key Account Director Dan, is responsible for aligning The Hartford's innovative product offering with successful distributors in today's shifting financial services landscape.

When not travelling extensively, Dan lives with his wife Julia in York and is a keen rugby player and horse rider.

 

Alastair Conway

Alastair joined Cofunds at the start of 2008. His role involves evolving Cofunds shop window of innovative, market leading propositions, products and services. His team is also responsible for all aspects of effectively marketing and communicating the Cofunds proposition to the marketplace and our relationships with Fund Managers.

Alastair's previous roles include Head of Propositions and Commercial Development at Sesame and CEO of The Clear Group, a Financial Services Group based in London and Surrey. He has been in the financial services industry for over 20 years.

 

David Trenner

An honours graduate from Manchester University David has worked in financial services for over 30 years. In addition to holding the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate including the G60 Pensions qualification David has been a senior pensions examiner for the CII and in his last post was responsible for pensions technical training for a major UK life insurance company.

He is well known throughout the industry for his pensions expertise and provides the company with top quality technical back up in his position as Pensions Technical Director.

 

Robert Reid

Robert Reid APFS CFPcm Chartered Financial Planner; is a Director of Syndaxi Financial Planning; a fee based firm of chartered financial planners based in the heart of the City in London close to the Tower of London.

Scottish by birth, Robert has been married to his Greek Cypriot wife for 23 years, has two children aged 17 and 20; and has learned to appreciate and be integrated in two distinct cultures. This has also alerted him to the issues of investing/living or holding assets under differing laws and customs.

Robert entered the financial services sector in 1976, and has since 1985 provided personal financial planning advice initially in Scotland; from 1993 he returned to London where he had worked in the 80’s.

He is currently the Immediate Past President of the Personal Finance Society (PFS); and the Chairman of Practitioners Advice Committee – European Financial Planning Association. Robert led the successful project which secured the Chartered Financial Planner title.

He works in conjunction with US firm Raymond James in London and provides their investment advisers with professional financial planning advice, increasingly that has brought him into cross border issues with US Citizens coming to or leaving the UK.

Robert is the Readers Editor of Money Marketing [UK’s leading Financial Advice Weekly Newspaper] he has previously worked with the Financial Times and writes extensively on market conditions and on technical planning issues. Robert is a regular speaker at events in UK and Europe.

In October 2008 Robert was the recipient of The Widows Lifetime Achievement Award for 2008, an award from Scottish Widows in recognition of his work at the PFS and the work he has done to improve the adviser industry. The Widows awards were launched in 2006 and are an opportunity for the life and pensions industry to recognise success and achievement in the financial adviser community. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to the financial adviser who has given the most to financial services over his or her life.

 

Stuart Tragheim

Stuart Tragheim is Director, Distribution Strategy & Business Development for LV=. Responsible for marketing, national accounts and e-commerce for the Life and Pensions business at LV=.

Previously Director of Intermediary Business, Stuart joined the friendly society in 2005 from the Association of British Insurers, where he had been Director of the ABI’s Raising Standards scheme and latterly as Human Resources Director.

He was also previously Sales Director at the Teachers Provident Society. Stuart has also held sales, marketing and technical roles within Schroders, TSB (IFA division) and Skandia Life.

LV= is the largest Friendly Society in the UK and the 4th largest mutual insurer.

Stuart contributes to the activities of a number of UK financial services trade associations (for example ABI) and is currently Chairman of ILAG.

He is a Cert. PFS, holds a Diploma in Employment Law and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences.

 

Dr. Thomas See

Thomas See's investment career began in 1988 upon joining Schroders within its Investment Banking division where he remained for 13 years, working across a broad range of businesses including project financing, property financing, structured investments and derivatives in Asia and Europe. Following the sale of Schroders' investment bank to Citigroup in 2001, he rejoined Schroders in 2005.

As Head of Structured Fund Management, he is responsible for the open ended structured funds business which designed and launched Schroder Income Maximiser in 2005. Thomas graduated from Cambridge University with a Double First with Distinction and has a PhD in Engineering.

 

Steve Lowe

Steve Lowe joined Living Time in the role of Marketing Director in May, 2008. He is a member of Living Time's senior management team and has functional responsibility for Living Time's marketing, communications, product development and pricing.

Prior to that he was Marketing Director for Prudential's IFA, B2B and Corporate Partnership businesses in the UK, Europe and Middle East. Steve has held senior marketing & strategy positions within Life & Pensions, General Insurance, Banking and Consumer Services working for brands in FTSE 50 Blue Chip and smaller entrepreneurial organisations.
